Baby Mourning Dove Steals Hearts After Crashing College Graduation Ceremony
College graduations are among the most well-deserved celebrations a person can experience, especially after years of balancing studying, working, and rushing from one lecture to another. After all that hard work, it's time to celebrate! While most people may not remember the commencement speaker or who they sat next to during the hours-long ceremony, there are always a few unexpected moments-like a bird encounter at the University of Georgia's graduation ceremony-that graduates will cherish forever.
On May 12, UGA alumnus Addison Inman shared a video of the moment a juvenile mourning dove landed among the excited graduates. Every student had a priceless reaction, but the baby bird couldn't have been more unbothered! The mourning dove chick quickly settled in for the rest of the ceremony thanks to one brave and selfless graduate, but the once-in-a-lifetime moment is still making rounds online.

This is truly a unique experience! The tiny baby bird left a big impression on these graduates, and its timing couldn't have been better. Everyone's in a great mood, the students are together for the last time, and there are plenty of places for a bird to sit or find a snack!
"Did he major in Disney Prince?" commenter @melsad84 asked. That's certainly what it looks like! The young man scooped up the stunned bird with all the confidence in the world, unlike the young lady in the row ahead of him, who looked terrified by the dove.

From landing in the seats to hanging out with the graduates, the mourning dove chick was ready to join the festivities. Even @pizzahut joked, "he forgot his little cap and gown." That's truly all that was missing!
This heartwarming wild bird encounter may have stolen hearts online, but it's unclear how the bird landed there or how long it stayed. As much as commenters like @elizabeth9658 wanted to see him "walking with the bird" at the commencement ceremony, this large-scale graduation had students standing up to turn their tassels by college instead. Even so, the bird still seemed to enjoy the experience while hanging out with its new human friends.

Although their name implies grief and sadness, mourning doves are widely regarded as symbols of peace and love. It's especially meaningful to see a dove at a special occasion like a wedding or graduation, though those who are familiar with these birds know they're never very far away.
