Roku Quietly Adds 4 New Free Channels for Customers With More in Store
Late last year, Roku added 20 new channels – including familiar favorites like the iconic game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and 90's sitcom Home Improvement.
While the cord-cutting platform added plenty of quality content just a few months ago, Roku is back with its latest offering for customers.
Roku Adding New Channels Focused on Creators
On Tuesday, May 19, Roku announced. the company will increase the amount of licensed programming the platform has from top creators, with FAST channels from Prof G Podcast, iShowSpeed, Jesser, Stokes Twins and other creators set to join the platform as well.
"We just see that the demand among both audiences and, really significantly, advertisers has just continued to grow, and as Roku thinks about its content offering, we want to make sure that we have a good selection of anything that a consumer wants to watch," Roku head of content Lisa Holme told the Hollywood Reporter.
"The viewership on [creator content on Roku Channel] has continued to grow, so that's one signal of increased demand, and then we also see what people are searching for, whether they're watching it with us or not, and we just have seen the search traffic for this type of content, and for specific creators, and for genres of creator content has has gone up."
What is Roku and When Did It Start?
Roku was pioneered as a streaming platform to TV by founder Anthony Wood started in 2002 before catching on in 2008.
