Sweetgreen opens at El Paseo de Saratoga - with new protein wraps

Sweetgreen restaurant, which specializes in farm-to-table salads, wraps, bowls and plates, has expanded to El Paseo de Saratoga in San Jose.

It’s the 17th Bay Area location, and three more are coming. An Emeryville restaurant will open this fall, followed later by one in Redwood City and one on San Francisco’s Battery Street.

The West San Jose restaurant, already in soft-launch phase, will hold grand opening festivities starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 19. For every meal sold that day, Sweetgreen will donate a meal to Hunger at Home, a Santa Clara County nonprofit.

Four protein-heavy wraps made with olive-oil tortillas are the newest Sweetgreen offerings: Saucy KBBQ Chicken, Classic Chicken Caesar, Cali Chicken Club and Chicken Jalapeno Ranch. There’s also a new Chicken Sesame Crunch salad.

Still going strong with customers are the KBBQ Steak bowls and plates - accompanied by cucumber kimchi, spicy broccoli and apple kimchi sauce - and two of the restaurant’s longtime bestsellers, the Caramelized Steak and Miso Salmon plates.

Here’s the schedule of San Jose giveaways and other promotions:

Tuesday, May 19: The first 75 diners in line when the restaurant opens at 10 a.m. will receive a free entree (up to $20), with no additional purchase required. Giveaways will include Sweetgreen cycling merch.

Thursday, May 21: From 4 to 8 p.m., partnership freebies and fun include a free DIY plant bar from Little Green; candle giveaways from Happy Organics; and vintage photobooth images from Photomatica.

Saturday, May 23: From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., there will be free beverages from Voyager Craft Coffee and a DIY mini bouquet workshop from Sweet Pea the Flower Truck.

Sunday, May 24: The first 50 customers to place an order in-restaurant will receive a free Sweetgreen-Cotopaxi fanny pack.
