Golden Retriever Clearly Tells Mom She's Hungry for Dinner in Funny Clip

In my house, there are certain words we can say around our dogs as long as we're prepared to follow through, and there's another list of things we have to spell because they're a little too smart for their own good. It's pretty impressive what they've figured out!

Lucy, the Golden Retriever, must have the same IQ level or higher than my pups because when Mom speaks to her, this funny girl proclaims she's ready to eat!

Lucy doesn't have to know how to speak English to understand what Mom said. If you'll notice, once asked if she's hungry, the Golden responded with the "awoo" she's become known for, and then she led Mom down the stairs to her bowl, where she commenced the dinnertime happy dance! That, to me, is her way of speaking our language perfectly!

That's just one clip proving Lucy's intelligence. And, in case you're not convinced she's a doggy genius, there's a lot more where that came from.

As an avid communicator of all things dog and philosopher of important life lessons and musings, Lucy gained her massive following by being a chatty kitty, and we love her so much for it. Here's a seriously sweet compilation of the vocal pup doing her thing!

Beware: You'll be instantly obsessed with Lucy when finished!

I genuinely didn't think I had any decent woos this week, but I think it's one of the best weeks ever! #goldenretriever#doggo#dogsvideo#dogsoftiktok#funnydog

Do Dogs Understand English?

Technically, dogs aren't capable of understanding any human language, like English, in the way we do. But they do understand specific words, phrases, sounds, and what these things mean through association and repetition. Being exposed to conversations regularly lets them pick up what they're most exposed to and connect those things to a behavior, action, or emotion.

While Lucy may not completely understand English or that she's asking for dinner with her cute "awoo," I do think she's so smart that she's learned that when Mom talks to her, she can use her cuteness to lead Mom to the food! Now that is one very good girl!
