Spotting a hummingbird is always a joyful surprise, but few people get the chance to see baby hummingbirds unless they come across a nest. A singer and actor named Lara became a self-proclaimed "bird lady" after hummingbirds built a nest just outside her window. She even shared updates with her social media followers, who became just as invested in the birds as she was

However, this happy story quickly turned dramatic when Lara found the two orphaned baby birds alone on the ground. They fell from the nest and hadn't eaten in hours, and with no sign of Mom or Dad all day, every minute was critical. Don't worry-this hummingbird rescue story has a happy ending thanks to Lara's quick thinking and resourcefulness.

Lara is a hero to these baby birds! It's a massive relief that she noticed them as quickly as she did, or else they might have run out of time. Because baby hummingbirds are so tiny, they need to eat around the clock, but these little ones finally ate after getting settled at a local wildlife rehabilitator.

"Thank you for helping them and reaching out to a rehabber for advice instead of trying to do it yourself," commented @meredith1782. "You're amazing!"

As tempting as it may be to try nursing a baby animal back to health, every species has specific needs that most everyday people can't meet. No matter how much money and time someone dedicates to wildlife rehabilitation, nothing can replace knowledge! Lara did everything she could to keep the tiny birds nourished and warm until she found help, and she did an incredible job.

And how cute is it that the hummingbird rehab team is sending her updates? Watching these babies grow up has to feel immensely gratifying, especially because she's known them since before they even hatched. This is definitely an experience she'll remember forever!

What To Do If You Find a Baby Hummingbird

There's no doubt that Lara made the right call to gently move the baby birds and find them a long-term caretaker, but most of the time, baby hummingbirds should be left alone. Hummingbird chicks are regularly left alone while Mom flies off in search of food, so it's completely normal to find them by themselves in the nest.

If a baby bird falls out of the nest, though, they may need to be gently put back or placed somewhere safe nearby. Sometimes, the mama bird comes back to care for them until they're old enough to fly on their own, but other times, human intervention is needed.

No two bird rescue stories are the same, and few are as sweet and dramatic as this one. Thank you, Lara, for sharing this emotional tale!
