How Common Is Eye Cancer in Dogs?
Ayce's journey is full of ups and downs, but it also serves as a reminder to pet parents to stay on top of their dogs' health.
While there is no singular cause of eye cancer in dogs, UV light exposure, genetics, treatment for glaucoma, and viruses have been linked. Depending on the type of cancer, treatments for dogs can vary. Laser surgery, eyelid removal, eye removal, and cryosurgery are just some of the treatment options.
Eye cancer can happen in any dog breed, but there are a few symptoms pet parents can be on the lookout for. Symptoms include swelling, excessive tearing, discoloration, and bulging of the eye.
Although the diagnosis is scary, there is a high survival rate for eye cancer in dogs, with early diagnosis being key to a positive outcome. Regularly keeping up with your dog's checkups can help detect abnormalities sooner rather than later.
