Leigh Steinberg, Aaron Peirsol among honorees at OC Sports Awards

Sports agent Leigh Steinberg and Olympic champion Aaron Peirsol are among the honorees for the OC Sports Awards on June 18 at Angel Stadium.

Steinberg has represented more than 300 professional athletes including eight NFL No. 1 overall draft choices during his long career. He was the main inspiration for the title character in the Tom Cruise film, “Jerry Maguire.”

Peirsol, who was a star athlete at Newport Harbor High, won five Olympic gold medals in swimming and established several world records. The backstroke was his specialty.

The event honors Orange County athletes, coaches and sports figures. This will be the second OC Sports Awards and is organized and managed the Orange County Sports Commission.
