BTS at Stanford Stadium: Traffic, parking, weather and bag policy for Arirang World Tour

BTS will bring one of the world's biggest pop tours to Stanford Stadium this weekend, drawing tens of thousands of fans for three nights of music, traffic and plenty of fireworks.

The South Korean boy band is scheduled to perform Saturday-Sunday, May 16-17 and Tuesday, May 19, as part of its Arirang World Tour. The Stanford shows are the group's only Northern California stops and mark BTS' return to the Bay Area as a group for the first time in eight years.

Presented by Stanford Live and Stanford Athletics in conjunction with Live Nation, the concerts will feature a 360-degree stage designed to create a more immersive experience for fans, according to Stanford Report.

Stanford Stadium, which has a capacity of more than 50,000 people for football games, hosted Coldplay for two sold-out concerts last year. BTS' three-night run is expected to be an even larger operation, with heavy crowds on campus and in nearby Palo Alto before and after each show.

Here's what to know before you go:

What time do BTS concerts start at Stanford Stadium?

The concerts are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. each night. General gates open at 4:30 p.m., and fans can enter through Gates 2, 4, 5, 10 and 12, according to Stanford's event guide.

VIP Nation early entry begins at 3 p.m. at Gate 4, with VIP check-in ending at 3:45 p.m. Floor-seat ticket holders should enter through Gate 12, unless they need ADA assistance, in which case they should use Gate 1B.

Once inside, fans will not be allowed to re-enter the stadium after scanning their tickets.

BTS concert traffic at Stanford: What drivers should expect

Plan for major congestion on and around the Stanford campus, especially before the 7 p.m. start time and after the 10 p.m. curfew.

Stanford is requiring prepaid parking passes for all event lots around the stadium. Passes must be purchased by midnight on the day of the event, and all general parking lots open at 1:30 p.m. on show days.

Several campus streets will be closed on concert days. The Arboretum/Palm intersection between Palm Drive and Galvez Street, Lasuen Street between Campus Drive and Arboretum Road, and Galvez Street between Campus Drive and Jane Stanford Way will be closed from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Lasuen Street between Campus Drive and Roth Way will be closed all day on show days.

ADA golf cart transportation will be available between the rideshare lot and Gates 1B and 4 before and after the concerts.

Taking Caltrain to BTS at Stanford Stadium

Caltrain is likely to be one of the easier options for fans who can use it. Palo Alto Station is the closest Caltrain stop to Stanford Stadium, about a 20-minute walk from the venue.

The Stanford Stadium Caltrain station will not be in use for the BTS concerts. Caltrain will add one northbound local train to San Francisco after the concerts, departing Palo Alto at 11:28 p.m. for the weekend shows and 11:27 p.m. for the Tuesday show.

Riders should remember that Caltrain uses a proof-of-payment system. Tickets are not sold onboard, and passengers without valid fare can be fined.

BTS at Stanford Stadium weather forecast

The weather should be mild for the weekend shows, but fans should bring layers for the walk back after the concert.

The National Weather Service forecast for Stanford calls for sunny skies Saturday with a high near 71 and a mostly clear night with a low around 49. Sunday is expected to be sunny with a high near 72 and a mostly clear night with a low around 52. Tuesday is forecast to be warmer, with a high near 84 and a mostly clear night with a low around 55.

Because the concerts are outdoors, fans should check the forecast again before leaving and prepare for sun during the afternoon and cooler temperatures after dark.

What songs are on the BTS Arirang World Tour set list?

BTS' exact song choices may vary by night. But fans who do not mind spoilers can look to earlier stops on the Arirang World Tour for clues.

The shows so far have included major BTS hits such as "Fake Love," "Dynamite" and "Butter," along with songs from the group's latest album.

Will there be fireworks at the BTS concerts?
