Portier named Economic Development Manager for Vacaville
Amanda Portier will serve as Economic Development Manager for the city of Vacaville, filling a vacancy that has been open since December. Portier previously served as Community Engagement Specialist in the city manager's office for the city of Woodland and will begin her position with the Vacaville on May 11.
"I am honored to join the city of Vacaville team and serve my community," Portier said. "Vacaville has such unique economic assets and growth opportunities, and I am excited to continue strengthening the local economy for all businesses and residents to thrive."
Portier will lead the completion and implementation of the city's Economic Development Strategy.
"Working collaboratively with the Building and Planning Divisions, she will support business engagement and economic development initiatives, including the development of a small business ambassador program, and continued industrial and commercial business growth," a release from the city reads.
Erin Morris, Community & Economic Development Director, said Portier will bring forward-thinking leadership and community engagement skills in line with the city's existing economic aims.
"Her experience and drive will be instrumental as we advance our Economic Development Strategy and continue to support a thriving, resilient business community," Morris said.
City Manager Savita Chaudhary said Portier will play a vital role in the city's economic initiatives and will strengthen the city's position as a competitive, business-friendly community.
"Amanda's appointment reflects the city's commitment to investing in strong leadership that drives innovation, supports our business community, and delivers on our long-term economic vision," Chaudhary said.
Economic Development was once a stand-alone department at the city of Vacaville, but it was merged with the Community Development Department and placed under Morris's leadership in January, shortly after former Economic Development Director Don Burrus announced his retirement.
"This merger reflects the city's commitment to smart, coordinated growth and economic development," said Mayor John Carli. "Our staff continue to demonstrate professionalism and forward momentum as they improve service delivery, support a strong local economy, and help move Vacaville's strategic priorities forward for the long-term benefit of our community."
Portier holds a Bachelor of Science in Community and Regional Development with a minor in Statistics from the University of California, Davis.
"While attending UC Davis, she co-founded and chaired the board for Women in Data at UC Davis, the nation's first student-run chapter of the international non-profit, Women in Data," the release reads. "Additionally, she co-authored published research on economic development programs. Upon graduating from UC Davis, she received the 2022 University Medal, an award given to the top graduating senior for academic excellence, leadership, and community service."
