Nintendo May Be Releasing a New 'Super Smash Bros.' Game Very Soon

It has been eight years since Bandai Namco Entertainment and Nintendo released one of the greatest fighting game crossovers in history with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Now, it seems like the follow-up to the beloved Nintendo Switch title is coming sooner than many may have anticipated.

Over on X, Reece "Kiwi Talkz" Reilly sent Nintendo fans into a frenzy when he casually dropped that he expected a new Smash Bros. release in the "next year or two." Normally, this would just be a typical rumor, but Reilly is a video game developer interviewer and has been a part of the games industry for years.

Reilly's full post contained a collage of key art from Grand Theft Auto 6, Metroid Prime4: Beyond, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. "These are my 4 favorite game franchises of all time, and it's great that I know all 4 IPs have stuff coming either soon or in a year or two. GTA 6 in November, another Metroid game on the near horizon, Smash Bros in the next year or two, and another Zelda game & the movie in 2027," wrote Reilly.

This, of course, is not a confirmation from Nintendo that any of these titles are indeed coming soon. However, Reilly doubled down on his statement when X user Nintendo Prime asked: "Wait, you know about all 4 of these?"

In response, Reilly wrote, "of course," with a smile emoji.

Nintendo has been the victim of several purported leaks recently, including one from infamous leaker NatetheHate that may have revealed most of Nintendo's major plans for 2026 and at least part of 2027.

Nintendo has not officially responded to any of these rumors, and all of them should be given their due skepticism until more information is available or Nintendo addresses these leaks.
