A cat looked absolutely scared and confused on his very first safari trip with his parents.

In a TikTok video, a cat parent took their baby on a safari for the first time, and he was absolutely shocked and horrified by the sights. In the video, the parents captured the moment an ostrich approached the car and took some of the snacks they offered.

The camera then panned over to the sweet cat, who was completely shocked by the large bird's presence. He cautiously watched the interaction with the ostrich from a safe distance on the car's dashboard and didn't keep his eyes off the ostrich the entire time.

In the caption, his parents wrote, "He was in a fever dream."

People in the comments tried to decipher what the cat and the ostrich could've been thinking in that moment, with one writing, "Whole time that cat is wondering why birds are so big, and that bird is wondering why your tiger is so small."

Another joked that his expression actually said, "No cat is gonna believe him."

"He probably thought it was a dinosaur," another added, while another user said, "The cat just met its nightmare in daylight."

How to keep your cat calm in a stressful situation

Cats are notoriously sensitive to sudden environmental changes, so as pet parents, it's essential to ensure they feel safe.

According to PetMD, "Fear and anxiety in cats can stem from various factors-genetics, the behavior and health of the mother cat, and the experiences they have from the time of birth until they come into your life."

Some of the most common fears cats can have are with "loud noises, other animals, changes to their environment," among other factors. Some common behaviors a scared cat can exhibit include hiding, avoidance, hissing, and even growling.

Some of the tactics a cat parent can adopt for their cat to be less anxious and fearful of their environment include "desensitizing" them at a young age and exposing them to other animals and people, creating safe spaces for them if they seem stressed or scared, and maintaining consistency in a cat's environment.
