Oakland motorist flees after driving onto sidewalk, injuring seven pedestrians
Seven people, including a child, were taken to a hospital early Saturday after a vehicle drove onto an Oakland sidewalk and struck the pedestrians, police said.
The driver fled on foot upon striking the pedestrians just after 1:30 a.m. on the 500 block of 18th Street in the Uptown neighborhood, the Oakland Police Department said in a statement. All the pedestrians were in stable condition as of Saturday afternoon.
When officers arrived, they saw two people running from the area, though police did not identify either as the driver. Officers located and arrested them and recovered two firearms, according to the statement from police.
"Thanks to community tips and evidence, OPD is following up on multiple leads and expects to arrest the driver in the near future," police said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the police department's felony assault unit at 510-238-3426 or send relevant videos or photos to cidvideos@oaklandca.gov.
