97.1 The Fan, LA's first all-sports FM radio station, is coming to SoCal

Southern California radio gets its first-ever all-sports station on the FM band when 97.1 The Fan debuts on May 11, station owner Audacy announced on Tuesday.

"Los Angeles is the epicenter of the sports world, and 97.1 The Fan is its new voice," said Jeff Federman, Audacy West’s regional president said in a written statement. "With legendary franchises and global events like the FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympics on the horizon, the time was right to bring our industry-leading sports programming to this market.”

Since 2021, the station had been known as KNX News 97.1 FM, simulcasting the all-news coverage of Audacy’s KNX-AM 1070. As The Fan, it becomes the first all-sports FM station, joining KLAC-AM known as AM 570 LA Sports and KSPN-AM which goes by ESPN LA 710 AM

"This launch further strengthens Audacy as the unrivaled leader in sports audio, reaching more sports listeners than our eight closest competitors combined," said Chris Oliviero, Audacy’s chief business officer, in a written statement. "Adding Los Angeles – one of the most passionate and influential sports markets in the country – completes our presence across the top 10 markets and meaningfully expands our reach and scale.”

97.1 The Fan is also branding itself as The Voice of LA Sports, and will include a mix of sports talk radio, breaking news, and coverage of the region’s professional and college teams.

“The Voice of LA Sports will be … where fans are part of the conversation every day, building on the same commitment to local connection that has made KNX News a trusted cornerstone in Los Angeles and strengthening our overall offering,” Federman said in the statement.

The switchover from news to sports takes place at 6 a.m. on May 11, with 97.1 The Fan also available live on the Audacy website and app.
