Ford Recalls 140,00 Rangers For Fiery Sun Visor Issue
Ford has issued a recall for 140,201 Ranger trucks for a wiring issue in the truck's cabin. The 2024-2026 Ford Ranger may have a wiring harness with excessive tape or one that was improperly installed. This issue could lead to damage to the harness. If that happens, the likelihood of a short occurring rises, exposing wires to the metal roof. The resulting spark from a short could trigger a fire.
In its recall report with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Ford says it believes repeated shorts pose the largest risk. Once soot from the shorts builds up, the automaker has found that fire risk rises in step. Drivers can spot this issue in a few ways: for one, the sun visor mirror lights may flicker or become inoperable, and so can the overhead map lights. Harnesses may also smoke or melt, and drivers may observe the associated sights and smells this brings.
Ford closed its October, 2025 investigation into the issue and issued the recall after determining that it was the soot buildup from the shorts, and not the surrounding materials, that posed a fire risk. Dealers have been told they can identify the problem by a code the affected Rangers may put out: B14AA-11. Regardless, it means the inspection and, if needed, replacement of the wiring harness to fix the issue, along with a software update. The new software will simply shut down the visor light if the system detects the B14AA-11 code after a few faults, hopefully circumventing the soot buildup that can cause fires. Ford isn't aware of accidents or injuries related to the issue. It will notify owners between April 27 and May 1, 2026. You can also check your VIN against the NHTSA's website to see if your truck is affected.
