These Boxers Melts Hearts With Their Reaction to Mom Burping the Baby
New mom Melanie Carmichael has a three-month-old son at home, and two very devoted Boxer "big siblings" who already act like they're on baby duty 24/7. In this video, you can see just how much the Boxer dogs adore their little brother, and it's absolutely precious.
The clip begins right after a feeding, and while Melanie's out of frame, the sound is unmistakable; it's the rhythmic sound of mom patting her baby to get him to burp, but to the dogs, it raises immediate concern. Thinking their mom might be hurting the baby, both Boxers begin whining and reacting protectively, clearly trying to alert her that something doesn't seem right from their perspective. We love how the brown Boxer looked (and sounded!) so concerned about his baby brother. We wonder if this happens regularly and if the dogs have gotten more used to it, but after 3 months, they must still not understand that Melanie is not hurting their brother.

While the brown Boxer seemed very concerned, viewers thought the white one was trying to tell him to chill out. @GLAM shared a screenshot of the white dog with his paw on the brown one's back and got 104,000 likes when she said, "Stand down…she's the one that feeds us too!"
Another commenter added what the white dog was probably thinking, "Dude! What?! We TALKED about this." @Sara D got 56,000 likes when she added, "The other one is like, come on dude, we do this every day!"
In general, dogs are pack animals with deeply ingrained protective instincts, and many dogs instinctively recognize babies as vulnerable members of the pack who need extra care.
Are boxers good with babies? The AKC describes boxers as both patient and protective by nature. They also call them exceptionally devoted family dogs with strong protective instincts and a particular affinity for children. So it makes sense that these boxers are concerned about the baby's safety.
It's worth noting that many dogs have never smelled, seen, or heard baby sounds before (like the burping), and may be uncomfortable around them. Since babies can get noisier and start moving around more as they get older, make sure to always monitor your dogs with babies, even if you aren't concerned that they would hurt the baby.
It's also okay to have safe spaces, an area for your dog to relax and that your baby isn't allowed in. You can use baby gates or exercise pens to create a space for your dog can eat, have treats, play, and have downtime, something that pets and humans need with a new baby in the house.
