‘Art Alive’ celebration this weekend: The 100-year-old San Diego Museum of Art hosts its biggest annual fundraiser, an exhibition the pairs the creations of local floral designers with artworks from the museum’s permanent collection. This year’s theme is “A Centennial Soirée in Full Bloom.” There will also be large-scale floral and art installation and from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday there will be outdoor family activities. Whales and AI topic of talks: LIFE, MiraCosta College's lifelong learning group, hosts two free lectures starting April 24 at MiraCosta's Oceanside Campus in the Board Room of the Administration Building, Bldg. 1000, or online via Zoom. At 1 p.m., Elizabeth Rohwer, a speech technology adviser, will give a presentation on "AI, Philosophy and Language." San Diego Asian Film Festival's Spring Showcase: The Pacific Arts Movement, which hosts the San Diego Asian Film Festival, will present its spring showcase throughout the weekend. La Jolla Concours d’Elegance: Classic, luxury and historic cars are on exhibition at the 20th annual La Jolla Concours d’Elegance. Vehicles from 1925 through 1996 will be showcased across three days with events, including live music, food tastings, a live auction, car tours, art displays and a car show and awards gala. The event highlights 16 car categories such as supercars, American muscle, pre-World War I, Volkswagen buses and Formula 1 racers. “Beau Jest”: North Coast Repertory Theatre presents James Sherman’s 1989 comedy about an unmarried Jewish woman trying to please her pushy parents by hiring an actor to pose as her fiance. Last Laugh Friday performance: Last Laugh Friday is a night of comedy hosted by Emmy-winning actor and comedian Mark Christopher Lawrence and featuring headliner Noah Copfer. On-site fast-casual dining with live music before the show is at TERI Common Grounds Cafe, starting at 4 p.m. Concessions will be sold. 7 p.m. Friday. Climate Dance Party: The Birch Aquarium will host an event celebrating climate and ocean science with after-hours access to the aquarium. Local climate experts and vendors will be on hand to share their expertise and there will be a dance party with music from DJs for Climate Action. San Diego Book Crawl: The San Diego Book Crawl runs Saturday through April 27 at 15 area bookstores. This year's crawl will have two new author ambassadors and two artist ambassadors, who will pop up at participating bookstores through the three-day event. Crawlers who visit any of the participating stores listed below can pick up a free passport/map. Crawlers who spend $10 or more at any shop will receive a stamp on their passport. Prizes will be awarded at different levels based on the number of stamps accumulated throughout the three-day event. Store hours vary by location. Bigger-than-ever San Diego Book Crawl returns for its ninth year

Fern Street Circus: San Diego's social circus, Fern Street Circus, is back this spring with six free shows at six different parks around the city of San Diego. This year's show is titled, “Seeds of Joy/Semillas de Alegría,” and is inspired by community gardens and the idea that "joy grows when people care for things together," according to Fern Street Circus. Attendees can expect a bilingual show with professional circus artists, musicians and student performers from the circus’ free after-school program. New to the circus this year will be a live musical performance by the Chunky Hustle Brass Band, who will move throughout the space as playful characters dressed up as fungi. The neighborhood tour also hosts a community health resources fair during the shows. Fern Street Circus kicks off this weekend at Park de la Cruz on Saturday and the Golden Hill Recreation Center on Sunday. The Cesar Chavez Recreation Center will host the show on May 2, Egger-South Bay Park on May 3, North Park Recreation Center on May 16 and Azalea Park on May 17. Chicano Park Day:Musical performances, Aztec Indigenous dances, cultural and historical speeches, food, artwork and lowrider car showcases will be on display at the 56th annual Chicano Park Day. The event honors Chicano Park, which was founded after an effort by Chicano movement activists and the Logan Heights community banding together in April 1970. They protested against the construction of a California Highway Patrol station. Since then, the community has celebrated the historical landmark. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. . Wine Spectator's Grand Tour:Attendees can taste over 200 wines as the Wine Spectator's Grand Tour lands in Chula Vista for the first time this weekend. The one-day event, held at the Gaylord Pacific Resort & Convention Center, brings wineries from around the world for guests to sample, along with conversations with winemakers and food pairings. Panda Fest:Various Asian cuisines will be on display for consumption at Panda Fest. This traveling Asian food festival is debuting for the first time in San Diego and brings more than 80 vendors, creating over 200 dishes, from various countries, including Vietnam, Thailand, Korea, Japan and China. Noteworthy vendors from outside of San Diego at this two-day event are Tanghulua, serving up Chinese street food, and WobbleBake, making Japanese soufflé pancakes. Paint for the Planet:Rumorosa in Harbor Island is hosting a paint and sip event in honor of Earth Day.
