Juice bar closes, looks to start delivery service
OROVILLE - After two years the downtown location of Live Life Juice will close its doors for the final time on Saturday.
With successful locations in downtown Chico and Meriam Park and a growing customer base from Oroville, owners Angelina Brittain-Rasmussen, Abigail Rasmussen and Autumn Rasmussen opened a third juice bar in Oroville in May 2024.
"We are immensely grateful for everyone who came through our doors. Ultimately, we love our Oroville clientele and beautiful downtown Oroville," said Brittain-Rasmussen. "But the Oroville store didn't bring as much business as we thought it would."
While the shop - which offers fresh, raw, unpasteurized, organic juices, as well as organic vegan sweet and savory foods along with sauces and dressings - didn't operate at a loss, neither did it have "much gain," said Brittain-Rasmussen.
With the increase in the cost of goods and the more recent escalating cost of gas, the sisters had the option to raise prices but felt that would further negatively impact the business by deterring customers, so they chose to close the Montgomery Street location.
"The recent gas costs changed things exponentially. It tipped us over," said Brittain-Rasmussen. "In this climate, in this day and age with the economy we just felt we couldn't take the risk of staying open. We had to be smart about the business as whole and not get into deep water."
While the store front will be closing, Brittain-Rasmussen said they are gauging customer interest in a weekly delivery service to Oroville. On the counter at the store is a "sign up" sheet where customers who may be interested in continuing to get their juice without driving to Chico may provide their name and contact information.
"If there are enough people interested and the orders are big enough like if 10 people were to each order a handful of juices, it would make sense for us to drive to Oroville," said Brittain-Rasmussen. "It would really (be) awesome. We'd bring the refrigerator truck and park in the (convention center) parking lot right across the street from where our shop is now so we could get juices to our really loyal customers. And if the delivery service doesn't work, we hope to see them in one of our Chico stores."
