Video of Victor Wembanyama Injury Is Difficult to Watch

On Tuesday night the San Antonio Spurs took to the court hoping to gain a 2-0 advantage over the Trail Blazers before the series heads back to Portland.

Victor Wembanyama scored a game-high 35 points Sunday to lead a 111-98 win in Game 1 of the first-round Western Conference playoff series. The Frenchman produced the highest-scoring output in franchise history for a Spur making his postseason debut, besting Hall of Famer Tim Duncan's 32 points.

Game 2, though, isn't going as well.

Victor Wembanyama Suffers Injury

Trailing 34-32 in the second quarter, Wembanyama drove to the lane, but lost his balance and went down hard. The star forward smashed his chin on the court may have been momentarily knocked unconscious.

Video of the incident is difficult to watch.

ESPN's Shams Charania reported Wembanyama entered concussion protocol and will not return to the game.

Victor Wembanyama Recently Won Defensive Player of the Year

At the end of his rookie season, Wembanyama made it clear the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year award would be his in due time after Rudy Gobert's fourth win.

"I know that Rudy has a very good chance of winning it this year, and it would be deserved," Wembanyama said at the time. "Let him win it now, because after that, it's no longer his turn."

At 22 years old he became the youngest player in NBA history to win the award - and in unanimous fashion.

"The real struggle might have been getting to 65 games," Wembanyama said. "But I'm super, super happy to win this award and actually super proud to be the first-ever unanimous."
