Mark Kersey, CEO of San Diego County Taxpayers Association, joins Union-Tribune's Econometer

Mark Kersey, the new CEO of the San Diego County Taxpayers Association, has joined The San Diego Union-Tribune's weekly Econometer panel.

Kersey is a former San Diego City Council member, having served from 2012 to 2020, representing several northern inland communities in District 5, and is a co-founder of Cask & Coast Spirits Co., a bourbon whiskey company.

Kersey, 49, was named CEO of the 80-year-old taxpayers group in February. He has a bachelor's degree from Northwestern University and is also an alum of the UCLA Anderson School of Management. He lives in Black Mountain Ranch.

Econometer asks seven business leaders and seven economists/academics a different question every week about various topics affecting the local economy. It has run weekly since 2010 in the Sunday print edition of the Business section and can also be found online.

The column is sometimes cited by local policymakers in decision making and used in research papers. National questions asked of the panel often appear online across MediaNews Group newspapers, including The Mercury News, Boston Herald, Los Angeles Daily News, East Bay Times, The Denver Post and others.
