Highly Anticipated Netflix Show Quietly Canceled

It's not uncommon for Netflix to cancel projects for a variety of reasons, whether it's financial concerns, poor viewership, or simply that the project had run its course. It's not often, however, that Netflix cancels a project as a result of a physical altercation between two co-stars. That seems to be what happened.

Back in October, former One Direction bandmates Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik announced that they would be filming a three-part documentary showing them reconnecting after drifting apart following their time together in the band.

While there was no release date for the project, it was slated to be released on Netflix. However, it does not seem like that's going to happen, after all.

Louis and Zayn Documentary

On Oct. 2, Campfire Studios announced the upcoming project along with the two former band members and Netflix.

The three-part documentary was supposed to follow Tomlinson and Malik as they "embark on a road trip across America in a spontaneous adventure of reconnection, exploration and a lot of laughter," according to a press release.

The release promised that the project would see the musicians "opening up about life, love, loss and fatherhood."

"It is not a One Direction show; it is a show about Louis and Zayn, formerly of One Direction, who are reconnecting via a road trip," director Nicola Marsh told Deadline back in January. "These two guys who have lost touch because life happens, are reconnecting as they're experiencing America. They're both Brits and have spent quite a lot of time over here but that time has been on a tour bus with an entourage. This is truly them going town-to-town, reconnecting, having some fun, and getting to know people."

Obviously, the series was highly anticipated by fans, especially considering the longstanding and well-documented feud between the two former bandmates. However, it seems like the reunion was short-lived and the show will not be happening, after all.

Altercation Between Zayn and Louis

While the show was supposed to show the former bandmates reconnecting, it sounds like that reunion did not exactly go as planned.

According to a report from The Sun, Malik punched Tominson in the face during the filming of the documentary, leaving him concussed and with a cut on his head.

"Louis was stunned and in shock. Zayn was wearing rings so it cut his head. It happened outside in front of so many people," a source told The Sun.

The outlet reports that the altercation came after Zayn made a remark about Louis' mother, Johannah Deakin, who died of leukaemia in 2016.

"The lads were filming on location. Zayn started acting up and was mouthing off," the source told the outlet. "It spiralled into a row then Zayn made a remark about Louis' mum Johannah."

The Sun reports that as Tomlinson went to move following the comment, Malik punched him straight in the face. Because Malik was wearing rings, it cut Louis' head.

"He was pulled away and Louis was taken for medical treatment. He was left with a concussion. This happened outside in front of so many people. It was shocking," the source said.

Seeming to confirm this incident, Tomlinson's sisters have notably unfollowed Malik on social media.

Documentary Seemingly Canceled

The Sun reported that as a result of the conflict between the two former band members, it was "understood" that Netflix had decided to cancel the project last month.

Following the explosive report of the fight between Tomlinson and Malik, Marsh seemingly confirmed that the project had been canceled.

"... And there goes the last year of work," the director wrote in his Instagram story, sharing the reporting from The Sun.

Clearly, the reunion did not go as planned.
