Mom Gains 15lb in a Year, Not Prepared for What Son Texts Her

A mom was left stunned after asking her family a simple question about her appearance-only to receive a touching message from her adult son later that night.

Kerri‑Ann Williams, who lives in Georgia, shared the exchange on Threads, where it quickly went viral with thousands of reactions.

In the post, Williams explained that she has gained around 15 pounds since last spring and had asked her family if she looked "chubby."

She wrote: “I've gained about 15lbs since last spring. Yesterday I asked my family if I looked chubby. They all said their obligatory ‘no’ and kept it moving. Then I got this text from son number 2 after he got back to campus and I just…”

While her family had reassured her and moved on, the message from her 22‑year‑old son AJ stopped her in her tracks.

The message, sent when her son returned to his college campus was shared in a screenshot. It read in part: "You asked me earlier if you thought you looked ‘chubby' or something…I don't remember the word but 1. No. But 2 you are the most beautiful perfect mom any of us could've prayed for…Love you mama."

The post struck a chord with thousands of people online, many of whom shared reactions in the replies.

One commenter wrote: "What a beautiful message from clearly the most amazing son a mother could ever have. This made me tear up it's so sweet."

Another said: "What a wonderful son. Make me get all teary. Their words are so powerful."

Williams said the message meant especially much to her because she has spent years trying to encourage her children.

"I was so very touched because his words filled my bucket," she told Newsweek. "I have four sons and I have always tried to speak life into them. It is a wonderful thing to see that coming back from them."

Williams explained that she originally shared the moment on Threads rather than other social platforms.

"Funny thing… I shared on Threads because my kids don't always like when I post things about them on my socials," she said. "So I posted it there because none of my Thriends [friends on Threads] know me in real life."

She said she was caught off guard by the response. "I was so surprised when it went viral," she added.

While the post continues to circulate on Threads, Williams said the moment has already done what mattered most-affirming the close relationship she has with her children.
