Winter Storm Watch Issued as 3 Feet of Snow, Freezing Temperatures Approach

The National Weather Service issued a new winter storm watch for one state as a host of other states prepare for more freezing temperatures.

The midwest and Northeast is set to see a drastic change in temperatures as the highs plummet by 20 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit in one to two days with readings in the 70s, 80s and even 90s will be replaced by highs in the 30s, 40s and 50s for a couple of days.

Midwest, Northeast Preparing for Freezing Temperatures

"In a few places in northern New York and northwestern New England on Sunday, cold air may arrive quickly enough for rain along the front to briefly mix with or change to snow," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Matt Benz said in a statement.

But that's not all.

"Meanwhile, an upper-level trough over the Northern Plains on Friday will move to the Great Lakes by Saturday and the Northeast by Sunday," the National Weather Service revealed. "The system will produce late-season light snowfall over the Northern/Central Rockies and the Upper Great Lakes, Friday night into Saturday, and over the Upper Mississippi Valley/Upper Great Lakes Saturday into Sunday."

Alaska Preparing for 3 Feet of Snow

While the Midwest and Northeast deal with freezing temperatures in the middle of April, Alaska is preparing for a possible three feet of snow over the weekend.

With up to 36 inches of snow incoming, the National Weather Service issued a travel warning to those in the Eastern Alaska Range South of Trims Camp region, including the cities of Trims Camp and the Richardson Highway from MP 202 to MP 224.

"Travel could be very difficult with wet snow on warm pavement," the NWS said. "Expect some of the snow to melt as it makes contact with the ground, especially during the afternoons. Any wet spots will likely refreeze each night making for patches of ice."

It also warned that Visibility may be reduced below 1 mile at times, especially during periods of wind gusts up to 35 mph this weekend and Monday.

The winter storm watch runs through Monday morning.
