Flute choir to perform
La Forza, an augmented flute choir, will perform its annual concert at 3 p.m. July 18 at Memorial United Methodist Church, 1726 Pollasky Ave., Clovis. The free performance — including a flute soloist, two piccolo soloists and two conductors — will feature the works of Russell S. Howland, Scott Joplin’s ragtime and Sousa’s march, “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”
‘An Evening of Testimonial and Song’
“The Oliver Bryan Story” by Juli Bryan will be shared at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 785 N. Fowler Ave., Clovis, at 6 p.m. July 18. The story, also told in a book published in 2014, describes how a horrible motorcycle accident ends up becoming the “best day” of Oliver Bryan’s life.
‘Power of Letting Go’ event
The Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual Organization, 7319 N. 4th St., Fresno, will host “The Power of Letting Go” for World Meditation Day. The event, from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. July 19 at the Brahma center, will include a talk, discussion, meditation, time for self-reflection and refreshments. The free event aims to help participants “gain new insights about your true potentials, experience your inner self, and learn techniques to enable you to let go of unwanted mental burdens.”
Gathering about meeting Pope Francis
A Valley delegation affiliated with PICO at the World Meeting of Popular Movements in Bolivia will host a meeting in Fresno to share more about the gathering and meeting Pope Francis. Delegates from Fresno included Msgr. Raymond Dreiling, vicar general of the Diocese of Fresno, and Carmen Medrano, an organizer with Faith in the Valley. The Fresno meeting, titled, “A Message from Pope Francis: Year of the Encounter & Care for the Environment in the Central Valley,” will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 22 at Saint Anthony Mary Claret Catholic Church, 2494 S. Chestnut Ave.
Parish rummage sale
Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 10435 Hanford-Armona Road, Hanford, will hold a parish rummage sale from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 1 that will include clothing, kitchen items, small appliances, books, decor and furniture.
Saint John’s Bible at Saint Agnes Medical Center
Saint Agnes Medical Center, 1303 E. Herndon Ave., Fresno, has a full size, fine art reproduction of the original Saint John’s Bible on display on the second floor of the hospital’s North Wing. Saint Agnes is the only institution in California to have one of these limited copies.
The original manuscript is more than 1,100 pages and divided into seven volumes measuring two feet tall by three feet wide. The Saint Agnes Foundation raised $145,000 to secure the seven-volume set.
