Ever tasted ‘motor oil’ ice cream from the Central Coast? You can get it in Fresno now
A popular Central Coast ice cream shop whose No. 1 flavor is “motor oil” is bringing its ice cream to Fresno.
Doc Bernstein’s Ice Cream Lab ice cream is now for sale at Chosen Frozen Yogurt in Fresno, at 8967 N. Chestnut Ave., near Shepherd Avenue.
The Doc Bernstein’s name may be familiar to Valley residents who vacation at the Central Coast. It has shops in San Luis Obispo, Arroyo Grande and Orcutt and is carried in at least four other shops and cafes on the Central Coast. (The next closest place to Fresno to get it is in Kettleman City at Bravo Farms, the giant rest stop/gift shop/restaurant.)
People vacation all the time at the coast and know his product.

Chosen Frozen YogurtDoc Bernstein’s ice cream has another connection to the Valley. The dairy ingredients come from Top O’ the Morn Farms in Tulare.
Chosen is still selling its frozen yogurt, but has added ice cream cones, cups and sundaes made with the frozen yogurt toppings. The staff took “scooping lessons” on the Central Coast before bringing Doc Bernstein’s to Fresno.
Chosen carries popular flavors like sea salt caramel and birthday cake.
And of course, it has the motor oil flavor, which is dark chocolate ice cream with fudge ribbons and Kahlua. The flavor was created for a car show and the name stuck.
