Like free ice cream? Visit the Häagen-Dazs at River Park in Fresno on Tuesday
What better way to celebrate the hardest working insect in farming than with free ice cream. On Tuesday, Häagen-Dazs is dedicating Free Cone Day as a way to raise awareness about the vital role bees play in pollinating one-third of the world’s crops.
Free cones will be given away from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Häagen-Dazs store in the River Park Shopping Center in Fresno at Blackstone and Nees avenues. Along with your free ice cream, Häagen-Dazs will have information available about the threats facing honey bees and how you can help protect them.
To make your garden more bee-friendly, experts suggest planting native wildflowers, shrubs or trees. Also, don’t worry about keeping your yard tidy, bees love a yard with tree stumps and open sandy ground.
Häagen-Dazs has done its part by investing more than $1 million for pollinator research and education. Last year it also planted a six and a half mile hedgerow – the largest in the world – in the San Joaquin Valley to give bees a year-long home.
