Giant fire at fish warehouse near San Francisco pier can be seen for miles, video shows

A massive fire at a fish warehouse broke out on Saturday morning at Pier 45, San Francisco’s waterfront pier and has been contained after hours of being active, media outlets reported.

The blaze erupted at Caito Fisheries, a fish processing warehouse, CBS San Francisco reported.

The fire was first reported at 4:17 a.m. PDT, according to live updates from the department.

Lt. Jonathan Baxter confirmed that the fire was contained at 11:29 a.m. PDT and 75 firefighters will stay behind to make sure that it’s completely extinguished, according to the updates.

The blaze had spread to underneath the pier and one firefighter has been injured, but is in stable condition, according to the department’s updates. No other injuries have been reported.

As the fire crew battled the blaze, the building began collapsing, according to the live updates. The fire began spreading to other buildings and the pier was evacuated.

The fire was four-alarm status, according to Baxter. The SS Jeremiah O’Brien Museum was saved, according to live updates.

The SS Jeremiah O’Brien is one of 2,710 liberty ships built during World War II and is the last unaltered ship, according to its website.

“When firefighters arrived, the flames were literally lapping over the Jeremiah O’Brien,” San Francisco Fire spokesman Jonathan Baxter told CBS San Francisco. “They literally saved the O’Brien.”

The flames destroyed a quarter of the buildings on the pier, police officers confirmed, according to the department’s live updates.

The Coast Guard and Police Marine Units were also called in to help control water traffic.
