Concert news: Mexican rock band Caifanes announces Fresno date
Fans of the ’90s Mexican rock band Caifanes take note: The band announced a concert Thursday, May 12, at the Saroyan Theatre as part of its spring tour.
This is a rare show. It is one of just three California tour dates. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, and are available at the theater box office, select Vallarta and Save Mart Supermarkets, online at www.ticketmaster.com, or by phone at 800-745-3000. Prices have not been announced.
Formed in Mexico City in 1987, Caifanes quickly became an influential part of the Rock En Español movement along with bands such as Cafe Tacuba. The band was musically influenced by British new wave and progressive rock (think the Cure, King Crimson).
When the band broke up in 1995, its singer Saul Hernández found success with his next group, Jaguares. Caifanes reunited in 2011 for two big festival dates (one of which was Coachella). The band headlines Rock Fiesta, the Latin music festival happening March 18-19 at the Desert Gardens Showgrounds in Quartzite, Ariz.
On a related note, last week, Mexican rock band Maná announced its Latino Power tour would stop May 20 at the Save Mart Center.
