Cage the Elephant coming to Save Mart Center on rock-laden Spring Fling tour
Here’s a concert announcement sure to excite indie-rock fans: Cage the Elephant headlines the Spring Fling concert, Friday, March 11, at Save Mart Center, with Silversun Pickups, Foals and Bear Hands. The two-week Spring Fling Rock AF 2016 tour kicks off in Fresno.
Tickets for the Fresno date are $32.50 for reserved seating and $42.50 for general admission on the floor. All tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at select Save Mart supermarkets, online at Ticketmaster.com, by phone at 800-745-3000, or at the Save Mart Center Box Office. Presale tickets are available online at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13.
Those with long memories will remember Cage the Elephant played in Fresno in 2009 as rising stars. The Kentucky band, which had a hit with single “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked,” played a tiny club show at Audie’s Olympic Tavern.
Cage the Elephant has since become an arena-rock superstar. The band’s latest album, “Tell Me I’m Pretty” was released in October.
While Cage the Elephant is the main draw, all of the bands on the Spring Fling lineup have strong indie-rock cred. Los Angeles’ Silversun Pickups came out of the same music scene that produced Rilo Kiley and was nominated for best new artist at the Grammys in 2009. Recently, the band played at New Rock 104.1’s new studio in downtown Fresno. New York indie-dance band Bear Hands made it to Fresno several times over the years. The band last played here in October 2014, just days before an appearance on the late-night show “Conan.”
New to area music fans, perhaps, is the English rock band Foals. The band played the Coachella music festival in 2013, the same year it released its album “Holy Fire.”
