Crave oddball? See Titus Andronicus at Visalia’s Garden Street Plaza
Titus Andronicus is an odd band.
The New Jersey sextet references Shakespeare (it gets its name from the bard’s first tragedy) and “Seinfeld” (its first album was titled “The Airing of Grievances”).
It is a punk band known for cathartic live performances that sometimes open with a fairly accurate rendition of Thin Lizzy’s “The Boys Are Back In Town.”
The band is also known for penning sprawling concept albums. Its latest (released on Merge Records in July) is a double CD (or triple LP) five-act rock opera that has 29 songs and runs 90 minutes. Two of the tracks come in near the 10-minute mark.
Titus Andronicus plays a rare all-ages show Sunday, Sept. 27, at Garden Street Plaza in Visalia, along with fellow New Jersey rockers Spider Bags and Baked. The show was moved outdoors to make room for the expected turnout.
