Salt-N-Pepa brings ’90s hip-hop to Eagle Mountain Casino
It’s easy to get taken in by the nostalgia of Salt-N-Pepa, what with its songs popping up in a slate of viral videos the last few years. Then there’s that Geico commercial.
But the group — Cheryl James (Salt), Sandra Denton (Pepa) and Deidra Roper (DJ Spinderella) — is a serious part of hip-hop history. Formed in Queens in 1985 as one of the first female rap groups, Salt-N-Pepa had a string of releases in the ’90s and broke barriers with songs like “Push It,” “Whatta Man” and especially, “Let’s Talk About Sex.”
After breaking up in 2002 for several years, Salt-N-Pepa reunited and continues to tour with other hip-hop legends. For the Eagle Mountain Casino appearance, the group is joined by fellow ’90s group (and stars of the “House Party” movies) Kid ’n Play.
