Elvis Presley was the king of rock ’n’ roll. Michael Jackson was the king of pop.
B.B. King ruled the blues world, worldwide. The singer/guitarist, who died in May at the age of 89, was the name in blues music. He was a multiple Grammy winner, No. 6 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of Top 100 guitarists and inducted into both the blues and the rock ’n’ roll halls of fame.
Fresno rock violinist Patrick Contreras, who opened for King at the Warnors Theatre in 2009, leads a local all-star lineup for a tribute concert. Contreras will be joined by blues musicians John Clifton (of the Mofo Party Band), Richie Blue and Cole Fonseca, along with singer/songwriter Steve Ono and others.
