‘Zootopia,’ ‘Game of Thrones’ top picks among DVDs out June 7

This week’s new DVD releases, out June 7, range from animated fun to the clash of steel.

“Zootopia,” Grade : The animated film offers a world where predators and prey live together in general harmony.

When the new animated movie focuses on the critters, it’s a funny trip through the animal kingdom. What slows the ark (oops, make that arc) of the film is a crime story that’s in need of a few more monkeyshines.

The animation is beautiful. The city is divided into several distinct regions. This gave the animators frozen landscapes, lush forests and a beautiful cityscape to use.

“Hail, Caesar!,” Grade : This is a complete misstep by filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen as they show a laziness when it comes to the comedy.

The film casually follows Eddie Mannix (Josh Brolin), head of production for Capitol Pictures, as he faces numerous problems during the day. The main concern is the kidnapping of Baird Whitlock (George Clooney), the world’s biggest star, in the middle of production on the studio’s latest swords-and-sandals epic.

The Coens throw everything from Communism to pregnancy at the film but nothing ends up that interesting or funny.

“Game of Thrones Steelbook Seasons 3 and 4,” Grade : It would be enough to own the two seasons of this amazing HBO series. But, the Steelbook sets feature art designed by the company that created the opening credits. Each Steelbook showcases a specific location that is significant to that season and includes usable magnets.

Season 3 features the House Frey and their ancestral seat of the Twins. You will remember that as the location of Season 3’s Red Wedding episode. The icy landscape of Castle Black and the Wall are on Season 4.
