'Legally Blonde' Reunion Brings Reese Witherspoon to Tears
Reese Witherspoon couldn't hold back her tears during an emotional reunion with her Legally Blonde co-stars.
Witherspoon reunited with Jennifer Coolidge, Selma Blair, Ali Larter, Matthew Davis and Victor Garber on Saturday, June 20, for a New York City fan event marking the 2001 film's 25th anniversary and celebrating Prime Video's upcoming prequel series Elle.
It wasn't long before reflecting on the impact of Legally Blonde had Witherspoon in tears.
"When I walked in and I saw this moment, it just felt like it was galvanizing how I felt about playing this character-I'm gonna cry," Witherspoon, 50, told the crowd through tears, as per Entertainment Weekly. "Playing this character for 25 years has been the privilege of my life."
"People come up to me, and they tell me stories about how they go to law school because of her, or they named their daughter Elle, or they overcame some incredible challenge in their life because she did that," the Oscar-winning actress continued. "She went through this experience of feeling like everybody was looking down on her or judged her, and I don't know a person on Earth who hasn't felt like an underdog in some situation."
Turning to the cast, Witherspoon told her former co-stars, "Watching this happen is extremely emotional for me, and I'm really just so touched that you're all here."
In Elle, which premieres on Prime Video on July 1, actress Lexi Minetree will take on the role of Elle Woods for the first time as viewers follow the future lawyer through the tricky landscape of her Seattle high school in 1995.
Elle also stars June Diane Raphael, Tom Everett Scott, Jacob Moskovitz, Gabrielle Policano, Chandler Kinney, Zac Looker and Amy Pietz, with Brad Harder, Chloe Wepper, Danielle Chand, David Burtka, the late James Van Der Beek, Jessica Belkin, Kayla Maisonet, Lisa Yamada, Logan Shroyer, Matt Oberg and Sharon Taylor recurring.
