Stephen King Raves Over Apple TV's 'Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed' Series: 'It's Like Hitchcock Came Back'

Most viewers' attention might firmly locked on Apple TV's critically acclaimed Widow's Bay, but legendary horror writer Stephen King believes he's found something even better on the hit streaming platform.

Taking to X to share his thoughts on two of Apple TV's latest and greatest shows, the 78-year-old Shining writer specifically recommended Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, a darkly comic new thriller series that King favorably compared to the work of Alfred Hitchcock.

In his outlook, King said he enjoyed Widow's Bay, but he felt that the latter series actually outshined the former in more than a few categories.

"Widow's Bay is good. Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed is even better," wrote King. "It's like Hitchcock came back to do it one more time. And Tatiana Maslany is so good. The play of emotions on her face is pretty incredible. She goes from comic to terror in an instant."

King is not the only person who has been making their appreciation for Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed known online. As many critics have reported, the new Apple TV series has won consistent renown among early viewers, with many specifically praising the show's cast, writing and balance between comedy and suspense.

As the Rotten Tomatoes' consensus puts it, "Tatiana Maslany boldly leads this twistedly thrilling whodunit, serving as a fascinating exploration of the unexpected through compelling storytelling, diverting escapades, and the undeniable assurance of Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed."

Premiering on Apple TV starting on May 20, Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed follows Maslany's New York City fact checker as she's roped into a mystery beyond her wildest imagination.

Tasked with finding the murderer of a webcam boy she's employed, Maslany enters a dark, surreal, complicated world, forcing her to rely on her wiles and wits to solve the young man's death and escape the situation with her own life in tact.
