Why the ‘Love Island USA' App Crashed During Season 8's First Vote

The “Love Island USA” app crashed overnight during the first fan vote of season 8.

One day after new bombshells Jen Terry, Sol Dean and Caleb McDaniel were introduced, it was announced on the June 9 episode of the dating series that fans would have the chance to weight in on which islanders the bombshells would be paired with moving forward in the villa.

Voting was set to begin at 9 p.m. ET and at 1a.m. ET, however, as voting got underway, the show’s official Instagram page announced that the app was experiencing technical difficulties. The message read: “For those of you experiencing issues registering to vote, we apologize for the inconvenience. Our team is actively working on it. Stay tuned for updates. 💕🏝️ #LoveIslandUSA

Hours later, the show announced the voting would be extended after fans caused the app to crash overnight.

“Your overwhelming enthusiasm for America’s first vote caused the app to crash,” the Instagram message read. “But don’t worry, we are extending the voting window until 3pm ET / 12pm PT on Wednesday, June 10!”

Fans took to the comment section to share their reaction to the app going down. One fan teased, “I hope everyone is registered to vote in the midterm elections with this much enthusiasm.”

However, other viewers were still experiencing technical difficulties. “Brooo reset the vote! It's telling me that I've reached the limit when I haven't voted yet,” one shared while another added, “😢I still can’t register…I’ve tried a bunch.”

“Thanks for extending it. But it's literally still not working. I give up,” another message read.

The news comes as Peacockannounced on June 8 that the first episodes of “Love Island USA” season 8 - which is hosted by “Vanderpump Rules” star Ariana Madix - had generated 824 million viewing minutes, which is 74% increase over last season. It is now Peacock’s most-steamed original series in its first three days.

New episodes of “Love Island USA” are released daily, except Wednesdays, on Peacock at 9 p.m. ET.
