'Les Misérables' Actor Dead At 93
Patrick Godfrey, best known for his roles in Ever After: A Cinderella Story and the 2012 film version of Les Misérables, has died at the age of 93.
The news was announced by Godfrey's talent agency, Markham Froggatt & Irwin.
"It is with great sadness that we can confirm Patrick Godfrey passed away last night," the statement read. "He died peacefully at home surrounded by his family. Paddy was an exceptionally talented actor and a remarkable individual, and we will miss him greatly."
In 1998's Ever After: A Cinderella Story, Godfrey portrayed Leonardo da Vinci, starring alongside Drew Barrymore, Anjelica Huston, Dougray Scott, Melanie Lynskey, and Timothy West. He also played Captain Morrell in the 2002 movie adaptation of The Count of Monte Cristo as well as Monsieur Gillenormand in the 2012 film version of Les Misérables.
As for some other roles, he appeared in films including Clockwise (1986), A Room with a View (1986), Maurice (1987), The Importance of Being Earnest (2002), and Oliver Twist (2005). His television appearances include Doctor Who, The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, Casualty, Z Cars, Screenplay, Blott on the Landscape, Doc Martin, and Bramwell. He also spent time on Broadway, starring in The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby in 1981, with appearances in West End productions including As You Like It in 2016 and Witness for the Prosecution in 2021. Lastly, he did voiceover work in some video games, including BioShock 2 (2010), Red Dead Redemption (2010), and Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018).
Tributes poured in for the actor following news of his death.
"RIP Patrick Godfrey, 93 well lived, leaving behind a lasting screen legacy," one person wrote.
"Sad news. Patrick Godfrey brought so much talent and grace to the screen. May he rest in peace," another person posted.
"A life well acted, a legacy well kept. Rest in peace," someone commented
He is survived by his wife and two children.
