Stranger Than Heaven Reveals Tupac and Expands RGG Studio's Most Ambitious Story Yet

Few announcements at Summer Game Fest 2026 generated as much surprise as the latest trailer for Stranger Than Heaven, a game announced back in 2025. While the upcoming action adventure game from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio was already attracting attention for its unusual setting and decades-spanning story, the newest reveal introduced an unexpected addition to the cast: Tupac Shakur.

Developed by the studio behind the Like a Dragon and Yakuza series, Stranger Than Heaven is a new action adventure game published by SEGA. Previously known as Project Century, the game takes players through multiple eras of Japanese history, telling what RGG Studio describes as a fifty year saga about people struggling to find a place they can call home.

According to official information, the story spans five different periods: 1915, 1929, 1943, 1951, and 1965. The adventure unfolds across five Japanese cities, making it one of the largest historical settings ever attempted by the studio. Rather than focusing on a single point in time, Stranger Than Heaven follows events that stretch across generations and eventually connect to the origins of the world familiar to fans of the Yakuza and Like a Dragon franchise.

The game's cast has also become a major talking point. Confirmed performers include actors, musicians, and celebrities from both Japan and the United States. Among them are Snoop Dogg, Tori Kelly, Ado, Cordell Broadus, and several veteran Japanese actors. However, it was the reveal of Tupac that immediately captured headlines.

Why Tupac's Appearance Is Generating Attention

The Summer Game Fest trailer confirmed that Tupac will appear as a character in Stranger Than Heaven. Following the reveal, RGG Studio head Masayoshi Yokoyama explained that the inclusion was approved by Tupac's estate and that the developers obtained permission to use his likeness. Reports also noted that the studio did not use AI to recreate the performer.

Additional information shared after the presentation revealed that Tupac's character is named Amaru, a reference connected to the late rapper's legacy. Snoop Dogg also participated in the announcement, discussing their involvement with the project during the Summer Game Fest presentation.

Between its ambitious historical scope, celebrity cast, and the unexpected inclusion of Tupac, Stranger Than Heaven is quickly becoming one of the most talked about projects in RGG Studio's history. While many questions about the story remain unanswered, the latest reveal shows that this is not simply another Yakuza game. It is a much larger experiment that aims to tell a story spanning half a century of change, conflict, and ambition.
