Disney's 'Most Underrated' Movie Turns 25 Today, And Its Anniversary Merch Is a Must-Have
On June 3, 2001, Disney's animated movie Atlantis: The Lost Empire was released, and the official Disney Store's 25th anniversary merchandise for the movie is finally giving the flick the love and attention it deserves.
As shown on Disney Store's official Instagram account, a brand-new Atlantis 25th anniversary Spirit Jersey just dropped. The dark blue shirt features gold lettering, glow-in-the-dark elements and depictions of some of the best characters in the movie, including leading lovers Milo and Princess Kida.
Although Atlantis never proved as popular as other Disney movies, including the many Disney Princess films of the 80s, 90s and early 00s, it is an excellent movie, and the comments under Disney Store's post seem to agree. One commenter writes, "The most underrated movie❤️," and another echoes, "Maybe the most underrated Disney movie 😍."
Yet another comment reads, "My fav underrated film! 👏." Amid the celebrations of the new shirt are demands for additional Atlantis products, though, with one comment saying, "We need dolls ! At least a kida doll" and another similarly stating, "GIVE US A KIDA DOLL NOT A SHIRT PLEASEEEEE‼️‼️‼️‼️."
Atlantis, as the title suggests, centers on the mythical lost city of Atlantis. The story sees a band of (mostly) unlikely heroes on a quest to discover the city, only to realize that there is something much darker afoot. Those who love the movie praise it for its performances, storyline and visuals.
Somewhat surprisingly, Atlantis has another 2026 update beyond this anniversary merch, although it's not the on-screen return of the characters that many fans are hoping for. Rather, Atlantis is getting a sequel graphic novel, Atlantis: The Lost Empire Vol. 1 – The Curse of Kurok, which will be released on October 13 of this year.
As fans await that sequel, the Atlantis 25th anniversary Spirit Jersey can be purchased through the Disney Store website for $84.99.
