JFK's Sister Tells Tragic Story 'From Her Perspective' in New Movie

There have been a number of films and TV shows chronicling the tragedies tied to the Kennedy family: JFK, Love Story, Bobby, Chappaquiddick.

And now, another one is in the works, with Sasha Pieterse (Pretty Little Liars) set to lead a movie titled Rosemary. The psychological thriller will recount the tragic story of Rosemary Kennedy "from her perspective," Deadline reports.

Rosemary, who died in 2005 at age 86, was the sister of President John F. Kennedy as well as senators Robert F. Kennedy and Ted Kennedy. As a child, she reportedly exhibited developmental delays, and family patriarch Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. would later arrange a lobotomy when she was 23 years old - a procedure which left her permanently incapacitated, Deadline also noted on Monday, June 1.

"Rosemary's story has been told in fragments," Pieterse, 30, said of the role, per Deadline. "What drew me to this project is how it explores her as a person, not a symbol, but a fully realized human being with dreams and vulnerabilities."

The film will be written and directed by Cory Todd Hughes and Adrian Speckert, known for Under Fire with Dylan Sprouse and Foster starring Ron Perlman.

Deadline reports that the contained thriller will "dramatize Rosemary Kennedy's struggle with mental health, the devastating decision by her father, Joseph P. Kennedy Sr., to subject her to a lobotomy at age 23, and the long–lasting consequences of that choice."

"This isn't just a historical biopic. It's a psychological journey told through Rosemary's eyes, one that challenges the audience to reckon with how we define agency, dignity, and identity," Hughes and Speckert said, per the media outlet.

In addition to Pretty Little Liars and its spinoff, Pieterse is best known for competing on Dancing With The Stars contestant and starring in The Image Of You (2024) with Parker Young and Mira Sorvino.
