U2 Added to Shane MacGowan Tribute Album Featuring Musical Legends

There’s something special about a band that appreciates another artist so much that they want to help honor that artist by contributing to their tribute album.

That’s the case with Bono and U2. The legendary rock band has been added to the track list for the new tribute album to late Pogues frontman and fellow Irish musician Shane MacGowan. For the set, out on Nov. 13, U2 has contributed a cover of the popular Pogues song “Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah.”

The album, called “20th Century Paddy – The Songs of Shane MacGowan,” features a bevy of big-name artists lending their voices to honor MacGowan. One of them is Bruce Springsteen, who is contributing his previously released cover of “A Rainy Night in Soho” to the collection.

Other artists featured on the album include Hozier covering the holiday tune “Fairytale of New York” with actress Jessie Buckley, as well as Dropkick Murphys, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Tom Waits and even, yes, The Pogues. View the full track list on MacGowan’s official Instagram page.

MacGowan died in 2023 at the age of 65. The following year, The Pogues reunited, and in 2025, they embarked on a U.S. tour bringing together original members Spider Stacy, Jem Finer and James Fearnley with guest musicians.

U2 is such a big band that they certainly didn’t need to contribute to this set. They’re one of the biggest names on here, although you can’t say Springsteen or Hozier are small, by any means. But it’s special that U2 wanted to honor their fellow Irishman and lend their music and talents to this collection.
