Ye, aka Kanye West, adds second Tampa concert despite Nazi controversy

TAMPA, Fla. - The artist formerly known as Kanye West has been stiff-armed out of performing in several European cities due to his controversial and antisemitic behavior.

But in Tampa, he plans to perform twice.

Last week, the rapper who now goes by Ye announced a show at Raymond James Stadium on June 26. He has added a second performance on June 28.

On his website, Ye even advertised that some fans who signed up for the presale could win free tickets.

Ye has alienated fans after a pattern of antisemitic and racist behavior, including selling merchandise emblazoned with swastikas and releasing a song called "Heil Hitler." He has since apologized, taking out a full-page ad in the Wall Street Journal to attribute the behavior to his bipolar disorder and brain damage sustained from a car accident.

The Tampa concerts appear to be Ye's only upcoming shows in America for the foreseeable future. His other dates include stadiums and arenas in Turkey, the Netherlands, Albania, Italy, Portugal and Spain.

Ye was scheduled to headline the three-day Wireless Festival in London, but the event was canceled after U.K. officials refused to grant him travel documentation.

An upcoming performance in Marseille, France, was postponed after several local government officials took a stand.

"I refuse to let Marseille be a showcase for those who promote hatred and unapologetic Nazism," Marseille Mayor Benit Payan said. "Kanye West is not welcome at the Vélodrome."

Will he be welcome in Florida? According to responses from Tampa Bay Times readers after our first story, perhaps not.

"No way can he sell out RJS," one reader commented.

"Ray Jay? I'm not sure he could pack Curtis Hixon Park," another replied.

Tickets for the first show are currently being sold on Ticketmaster during a presale. A sign-up link has been posted on his website, tour.yeezy.com, for the second concert.
