This Iconic Horror Movie Is Creeping Onto Broadway

More thrills and chills are headed to Broadway this Fall!

After successful runs in Washington, D.C., Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and London's West End, the 2007 cult horror franchise Paranormal Activity is finally coming to New York City. Jason Blum, CEO and founder of Blumhouse Productions and original producer of the Paranormal Activity movie franchise, will also help produce the Broadway adaptation titled Paranormal Activity - A New Story Live on Broadway.

Deadline reports that the Broadway version of Paranormal Activity will feature an inspired "original story" about two new characters-James and Lou-who have never appeared in any of the Paranormal films. Writer Levi Holloway promises Broadway audiences a horrifying experience in the best way. "That they'll be immersed in the waking nightmare we've had the privilege to make is the stuff of dreams. I offer it's unlike any else on the American stage right now; a work of horror, heart, and absolute mischief borne from one of the most profound collaborations of my career," he says.

A limited Broadway preview of Paranormal Activity - A New Story Live on Broadway will take place from July 11 to July 30, before the show takes over the Great White Way in August for a 20-week run. The famed August Wilson Theater will host this eagerly awaited production. According to Deadline, casting "will be announced at a later date."

The first Paranormal Activity film premiered in 2007 and quickly became a box office sensation. It established itself as one of the most iconic found footage movies in the genre, alongside The Blair Witch Project and the V/H/S franchise. Paranormal Activity received an Independent Spirit Awards nomination in 2009 for Best First Feature and has since spawned seven spinoff films. The latest installment, Paranormal Activity 8, is planned for release in 2027.
