Country Star Set for First TV Appearance Since Husband's Tragic Death

Country music star Kellie Pickler is set to return to the show that made her famous. Pickler will return to AmericanIdol on the Monday, May 4, episode alongside some other Idol alums, including Taylor Hicks, Paris Bennett, Elliott Yamin, and Bucky Covington. The news was confirmed on the April 29 episode of the show's companion podcast, hosted by Danielle Fishel.

This will mark the first time that Pickler has appeared on television since the sudden death of her husband, Kyle Jacobs.

Pickler, who came in sixth place on the fifth season of American Idol, has not made many public appearances since Jacobs' death. She returned to the stage in 2024, performing during Walkin' After Midnight: The Music Of Patsy Cline at Ryman Auditorium on April 22, 2024 in Nashville, Tennessee. However, she has kept a very low profile over the past three years. In fact, she hasn't even posted to Instagram since May 2022.

According to E! News, Jacobs died by suicide in February 2023. He was just 49 years old.

"One of the most beautiful lessons my husband taught me was in a moment of a crisis, if you don't know what to do, ‘do nothing, just be still.' I have chosen to heed his advice," Pickler said in a statement given to People magazine in August 2023.

"Thank you to my family, friends, and supporters, for the countless letters, calls, and messages that you have sent my way. It has truly touched my soul and it's helping me get through the darkest time in my life. As many of you have told me, you are all in my prayers," she continued, adding, "I am planning an intimate memorial for my husband, which will happen later this fall, that is what Kyle would have wanted."

Pickler's return to American Idol marks a meaningful step back into the spotlight after years out of the public eye.
