Princess Cruises Just Announced a Massive New Ship Class-But You'll Have to Wait Until 2035 to Sail

While the year 2035 might feel like a far-off future, Princess Cruises is already plotting a course for the next decade with the announcement of its brand-new "Voyager Class."

Building on the huge success of the current Sphere Class, the line has signed a landmark deal for three next-generation ships that promise to be the largest and most sustainable in the fleet's history.

"The Voyager class will delight both our loyal guests and attract the next generation of Princess guests," said Gus Antorcha, Princess Cruises Presidentin a statement. "We have been leveraging extensive customer and agent research to strike the right balance between evolving our proven winners and introducing new concepts and partnerships grounded in what matters to our current and future guests."

For those of us who have stepped aboard the Sun Princess, it's easy to see why the excitement is already building. Having experienced the sheer "wow" factor of the glass-enclosed Dome and that sun-drenched, multi-story Piazza firsthand, the idea of an even more evolved platform is exactly what the premium traveler is looking for-a seamless blend of signature favorites and high-tech innovation.

"From exceptional dining and inviting pool environments to elevated entertainment and beautifully reimagined spaces throughout the ship, we are leaving no area untouched as we thoughtfully evolve the Princess experience," said Antorcha.

The three new Voyager Class ships, slated for delivery between 2035 and 2039, will clock in at a massive 183,000 gross tons, accommodating roughly 4,700 guests. But the real headline here is the "green" shift. These ships will be dual-fuel powered, primarily utilizing Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to significantly slash air emissions.

It's a move that aligns perfectly with the modern traveler's desire for more thoughtful, sustainable ways to see the world without sacrificing the luxe amenities Princess is known for. We can hope to see reimagined outer decks and staterooms that lean into that indoor-outdoor flow we loved on the Sphere Class, creating a destination that feels expansive rather than crowded.

Even though the first ship won't cut through the waves for another nine years, the commitment to "leaving no area untouched" suggests a total evolution of the Princess experience.

From elevated entertainment to brand-new culinary partnerships, the Voyager Class is being designed as the ultimate launchpad for the next generation of cruisers. If the Sun Princess was the spark that changed our expectations of what a mega-ship could feel like, these new builds are the flame that will carry that legacy into the 2040s. It's a long-lead look at the future of the sea, and if it's anything like the sun-filled spaces we've seen recently, it will be well worth the wait.
