'80s Child Star, Best Known for Iconic 1983 Movie, Turns 55-Fans Think He Looks Exactly the Same
Peter Billingsley just hit a major milestone. The beloved ‘80s child star, best known for his role as Ralphie Parker in the 1983 movieA Christmas Story, turned 55 on April 16.
In 1983, the eyeglasses-wearing young actor warmed fans' hearts when his character begged for a Red Ryder BB gun, only to be shot down by everyone from his mom to his schoolteacher to Santa himself.
More than 40 years later, fans can't believe Billingsley is old enough to live at a retirement community. But many noted the blue-eyed star hasn't changed much in 40 years.
In a Reddit thread devoted to wishing him a happy birthday, one fan wrote of Billingsley, "He's that person who looks exactly the same, just older. Happy birthday."
"How does he look exactly the same?!? It's the devil's work," another joked.
"He's 55?! Oh fuuuuuudge!" another chimed in, quoting one of Billingsley's most famous Christmas Story lines.
"55? What's his secret? He looks like he's in his mid-40s," another fan wrote.

As an adult, he played one of Santa's workshop elves in the 2003 movie Elf and appeared as a ticket agent in the movie Four Christmases. In 2022, he reprised his Ralphie role for the sequel movie A Christmas Story Christmas. Billingsley also works as a producer.
A Christmas Story remains one of the most popular holiday movies today and is played marathon-style for 24 hours straight on TBS and TNT every year.
Peter Billingsley looked back on his childhood fame
Over the years, Billingsley has talked about his childhood fame. In an interview with Bullz-Eye, he recalled his days as Messy Marvin. "Hershey's was great. I really enjoyed that," he said. "I was seven or eight or something like that, and I was hired originally as what's called a back-up. …I'd been there for, like, eleven hours and was ready to go, and then they brought me in and did it, and that wound up being something like eight or nine commercials and a decade-long thing."
He also revealed that he tunes into the A Christmas Story marathon each year. "I do watch," Billingsley said. "It generally winds up on television in the house for a little bit. Some folks in my family still enjoy that movie very much, and I do, too."
