Lana Del Rey Unveils New James Bond Theme Song for '007: First Light' Video Game

Lana Del Reyhas fulfilled fans' wishes of recording a theme song for James Bond, but it's sadly not for an upcoming movie installment.

The singer heads into the world of video games and espionage, having released a new title song for 007: First Light. The upcoming video game is a third-person action adventure following the exploits and missions of a 26-year-old James Bond, played by Patrick Gibson. Del Rey's track titled "First Light" was created alongside David Arnold, who has worked in the movie franchise before with films Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World Is Not Enough (1999), Die Another Day (2002), Casino Royale (2006), and Quantum of Solace (2008).

"The music of James Bond has always been a huge part of its identity," Arnold said, according to Entertainment Weekly.

"A title song has to tell us about the world we are about to enter into. It has to intrigue, excite, and beckon us in. This song joins a long line of genre-defining songs, each one creating a benchmark of style that adds to the magnificent heritage that is ‘The Bond Song'. That's why I was so excited to work with Lana, an artist who brought elegance, atmosphere, and her totally unique character to this piece, which I hope will open the world of Bond to a whole new audience."

Del Rey joins the list of artists who have performed a title theme for the franchise alongside Billie Eilish, Sam Smith, and Adele. Many may recall that Del Rey has been a longtime favorite to perform a Bond theme, with her having written a track titled "24" with the intention of it being used for the 2015 film Spectre. Instead, Smith's track, "Writing's on the Wall," was used.

007: First Light also included singer Lenny Kravitz, but not in a music role, but as the video game's leading Bond villain Bawma. The rest of the cast also includes Priyanga Burford as M, Lennie James as mentor John Greenway, Kiera Lester as Moneypenny, Alastair Mackenzie as Q, Gemma Chan as Dr. Selina Tan, and Noémie Nakai as Ms. Roth.

The video is set to be released on May 27, with Del Rey's title theme song available to stream.
