Dice Throne Digital Kickstarter Success Brings Popular Tabletop Game To Video Games
The hit tabletop franchise Dice Throne is making the jump to video games with Dice Throne Digital, and its recent Kickstarter campaign has quickly gained traction. Developed by Nerd Ninjas in collaboration with the original creators, the project aims to translate the fast-paced dice and card combat of the board game into a fully digital experience across multiple platforms.
Launched with a funding goal of $100,000, the Kickstarter campaign reached its target rapidly, reflecting the strong community that has supported Dice Throne since its debut. The campaign is not just about funding, but also about involving players directly in development. Backers are given opportunities to access early versions of the game, provide feedback, and interact with the development team as the project evolves toward its planned release.
According to the official campaign details, Dice Throne Digital is scheduled to launch on PC and mobile platforms in February 2027, followed by a version for Meta Quest devices in May 2027. Full cross-platform functionality is planned, allowing players to compete regardless of their chosen device.
A Community Driven Approach To Development
A major focus of Dice Throne Digital is its collaborative model. The Kickstarter campaign emphasizes direct engagement between developers and players, offering Alpha and Beta access tiers alongside private communication channels. This structure allows the community to influence decisions ranging from gameplay adjustments to additional features unlocked through stretch goals.
Nate Chatellier, co-designer of Dice Throne and CEO of Nerd Ninjas, has highlighted how crowdfunding has always been central to the franchise's growth. The digital version continues that philosophy by giving players a direct role in shaping its future.
This approach aligns with the history of Dice Throne, which has sold over 1.5 million copies worldwide and generated significant support through previous crowdfunding efforts. The transition to digital is positioned as a natural next step, expanding accessibility while maintaining the competitive and social elements that define the original game.
Gameplay Modes And Features At Launch
Dice Throne Digital will launch with a roster of eight heroes, each with distinct abilities, dice mechanics, and strategic playstyles. These include characters like the Barbarian, Moon Elf, and Shadow Thief, all adapted from the tabletop version. The core gameplay remains focused on one-on-one battles that combine dice rolling with card-based tactics.
In addition to Classic mode, which recreates the traditional competitive format, the game introduces a new roguelite Campaign mode. Inspired by the Dice Throne Adventures expansion, this mode features branching paths, enemy encounters, and progression systems that allow players to upgrade their heroes over time. Rewards earned in this mode can be used in other areas of the game, including competitive play.
The project also plans to expand through stretch goals, adding new arenas, cosmetic options, and potentially additional gameplay systems depending on community support. This evolving structure ensures that the final product may grow significantly beyond its initial scope.
With a successful Kickstarter campaign already underway and a clear focus on player involvement, Dice Throne Digital is shaping up to be a faithful yet expanded adaptation of the original tabletop experience.
