Kim Kardashian Faces Mom-Shaming Backlash for This Coachella Moment
Kim Kardashian brought her 12-year-old daughter, North West, to Coachella over the weekend, and fans had some pretty strong thoughts. Of course, the Kardashian clan is no stranger to controversy. And the most recent slam hasn't seemed to rattle the family.
Who is Kim Kardashian's daughter North West?
North is the eldest of Kim's children, born in June 2013. Kardashian shares the 12-year-old with ex-husband, Kanye West. Like the other Kardashians, North has grown up in the public eye and has a major presence on social media. While her most recent outing (to Coachella) may have grabbed fans' attention and sparked a backlash, this isn't exactly her first big event. The trendy tween who rocked blue hair at Coachella joined dad, Ye, on stage during an April 1 performance in Los Angeles.
As it turns out, North is a talented performer in her own right. She wowed fans at the SoFi Stadium concert, singing two new songs-'Talking' and ‘Piercing on My Hand.'
Why did North West's Coachella appearance cause a backlash?
North's weekend trip to Coachella made headlines. Like anything else the Kardashian-Jenners do, the tween was pretty much followed by a trail of cameras. Along with plenty of paparazzi-ish shots, she also took pics with a few famous faces, influencers, and reality stars. And here's where the backlash started.
Celebs can fan-out too. And it looks like that's exactly what North did when she got the opportunity to meet influencers and Love Island fan-favorite Olandria. People posted a video of Kardashian's daughter giggling with absolute delight as she met the celeb. As the pair posed for pictures, it was clear that North couldn't contain her glee.
While some fans thought the Coachella meetup with cute and absolutely adored the sweet squealing, others weren't as sure. One commenter bashed Kardashian for allowing her daughter to attend the event, writing sarcastically, "12 yr old at Coachella…Excellent parenting."
Other fans jumped in to defend Kim and North, with one commenting, "It's a music festival. And Justin Bieberwas the main artist this weekend, who actually happens to be a friend of the family…it's really not that scandalous," while another said, "12 year olds can't enjoy music?"
The controversy didn't end there. French influencer Matteo Sinet posted a clip of himself with North West, leaving fans to ask questions about her involvement with the 20-something model. One commenter wrote, "Who lets their 12 year old daughter out to a festival, let alone without her parents…She needs to be a 12 year old kid!" Another fan came to the rescue, pointing out, "When you are her parents you can choose if she goes or not."
