Thousands of people in hats of all sizes and colors took to the streets of Old Town Clovis on Saturday for Big Hat Days.
The two-day event, sponsored by Clovis Chamber of Commerce and Table Mountain Casino, serves as the official kickoff to the Clovis Rodeo.
People like Rene Mendoza attended the event, which included food, music, arts, crafts, vendors — and no shortage of hats.
Mendoza, a Fresno resident, has been coming to the event with his wife for the last 10 years.
He wore a hat shaped like a jet airliner upon his head. “I got this hat in San Francisco, and I figure if I can’t wear it here, for Clovis Big Hat days, I can’t wear it anywhere,” Mendoza said.
“If you can’t have fun at Clovis Big Hat Days, then you’re not having fun anywhere. So it’s a great time for everybody.”
Reann Heinrichs of Clovis said she and her family have attended the event almost every year. “My brother came down from Idaho to visit.…You gotta go to Big Hat Days. It’s the best place to go.”
Clovis Big Hat Days continues 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. For more information visit the Clovis Chamber of Commerce website.
