Second Fresno child dies from coronavirus, data show

A second Fresno County child has died from coronavirus, according to new information posted by Fresno County Department of Public Health.

Fresno County’s Interim Health Officer, Dr. Rais Vohra, could not provide any specific information about the case. The child was 17 years old or younger, according to county data.

About a month ago, California recorded its first pediatric death due to COVID-19. That child also was from Fresno and died at Valley Childrens Hospital in Madera.

More than 200 people in Fresno County have died from coronavirus, and more than 20,000 have tested positive for COVID-19.

Fresno County data show that around 3,500 children age 17 or under have contracted the virus.

Vohra urged residents to get their flu shots and stay up to date on other vaccinations so that when children return to school, the risk of spreading other diseases besides coronavirus remains low.
